From the facades of iconic buildings to digital \u201ccrypto\u201d art, Anadol pushes the boundaries of where art can live and for whom it should exist.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having collaborated with him to present his work at all three of our locations including his first major retrospective, <em>Infinite Space<\/em>, as well as his first large-scale solo exhibition in New York City, <em>Machine Hallucination<\/em>, we\u2019re honored to be part of Anadol\u2019s journey and are looking forward to the infinite possibilities of what we can do together next!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New Media Artist Refik Anadol: Biography<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Refik Anadol\u2019s imagination took off at age eight with two firsts: getting a computer and watching <em>Blade Runner<\/em>. This Turkish artist\u2019s early fascination with technology and film has inspired his body of work or \u201cdata dramatizations,\u201d which explore a central question: <em>If machines can learn, can they dream?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ARTECHOUSE Q&amp;A: Refik Anadol\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IkD1w1Fh6uo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; for his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anadol is quick to note that his works are not sculptures or paintings as we often think of them, but creations constructed by data points and machine intelligence itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>In my work, I am trying to find the poetry inside those datasets to create a new meaning beyond what data means.<\/p><cite>Refik Anadol, New Media Artist <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past decade, new media artist Refik Anadol has never stopped innovating at the intersection of art, architecture and technology. I hope to offer a new visualization of our digitized memories, expanding the possibilities of architecture, narrative, and the body in motion, as well as a dramatic rethinking of the physical world, our relationship to time and space, and the creative potential of machines to enhance our cognitive capacities.\u201d<\/p><cite>Refik Anadol, Media Artist<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Machine Hallucination<\/em><\/strong><br>Sept 2019 &#8211; Jan 2020 at <a href=\"http:\/\/artechouse.com\/program\/machine-hallucination\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"artechouse.com\/program\/machine-hallucination\">ARTECHOUSE NYC<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This inaugural installation at ARTECHOUSE NYC was Refik Anadol\u2019s first large-scale installation in New York City and the first to utilize artificial intelligence (AI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Behind The Scenes: Machine Hallucination By Refik Anadol\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1MJCohk3-04?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Collaborating with Anadol and his team, we transformed the boiler room below the historic Chelsea Market, where ARTECHOUSE NYC is located, into an immersive cinematic experience of the city\u2019s deeply-hidden consciousness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe level of collaboration with ARTECHOUSE is truly pushing the boundaries of art and technology.\u201d <\/p><cite>Refik Anadol, Media Artist<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>By deploying machine learning algorithms on one of the world\u2019s largest datasets \u2014 over 130 million architectural images of New York City \u2014 Anadol created a data universe of the city\u2019s collective memories and their AI re-imaginings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This novel form of synesthetic storytelling was presented immersively in 1025 latent dimensions through ARTECHOUSE\u2019s unprecedented 16K resolution projection technology and 32 Hypersurreal Sound channels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel privileged to be chosen as the inaugural artist for ARTECHOUSE\u2019s newest space,\u201d Anadol said. \u201cI\u2019m especially proud to be the first to reimagine this historic building, which is more than 100 years old. Anadol made this iconic building \u201cdream\u201d by applying machine intelligence to the orchestra\u2019s digital archives of over 45 TB of data, presenting the building\u2019s \u201cmemories\u201d and uncovering new connections.
